Multi-platinum DJ and world-renowned producer DJ Snake is back with his first single of 2023, “Westside Story.” The irresistibly funky track is made for festival season’s biggest stages with its massive bassline and positive message.

From its first lyrics, “Westside Story” inspires liberation, both on the dancefloor and beyond: “Break through / You need to break that shell.” What follows is a propulsive groove with deep, syrupy bass flowing across neon-glowing synth keys, wailing chords, and sweet vocoder harmonies. With this track, the French hitmaker brings a deliciously retro-modern sound for letting loose, and in the process showcases his ever-expanding palette.

With its heavy funk and lashings of disco, “Westside Story” underlines DJ Snake’s status as one of the most eclectic producers in dance music. Not only that, but he remains at the cutting edge of incorporating global sounds into euphoric club anthems — as evidenced the deeply personal “Disco Maghreb,” which celebrated Snake’s Algerian roots, and “Guddi Riddim,” a banger that brought Indian rhythms to a massive global audience.

The latter, a bone-rattling collaboration with Wade and the Nooran Sisters, went viral on TikTok and Instagram when he performed the track in India ahead of its release. It also continues a long string of barn-burning yet sonically diverse songs including the sensual “Nightbird,” “Disco Magreb,” and Afropop exploration “Power (Remember Who You Are)” with Spinall, Summer Walker, and Äyanna.

“Westside Story” arrives just after the anniversary of Snake’s historic performance at Paris Saint Germain’s Parc des Prince, where he played in front of 63,000 fans — marking the biggest headlining show of his career. It also adds to an already massive year. So far in 2023, Snake has performed at Super Bowl LVII and has been RIAA-certified 8x Platinum with “Turn Down For What.” But he’s not done just yet. He’s just kicked off an international summer tour with scheduled dates at Las Vegas’ Zouk, Ultra Europe in Croatia, Brooklyn Mirage, UK’s Creamfields, and more.

Listen to this song and more new music premieres on “The New Music Show”, playing daily at 5.30pm PT/8.30pm ET on Channel R – Today’s Hits & Your All-Time Favorites.
