Fresh out the council estates of Hull come [TheMounts] with their debut EP Runaway Girl –anthemic Britpop meets raucous indie in the form of a 3-track release depicting the misadventures of young love found in and amongst East Yorkshire’s nightlife.
Produced by Hull’s master of the indie sound Adam Pattrick, the opening track Runaway Girl is jam-packed with effervescent guitars reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys and lyrics inspired by the assertive sing-along Britpop anthems ofOasis. The track’s proved to be a fan favorite at their audience-packed gigs and was a clear choice for their debut release.
Lyrically dealing with male rejection and the desire to be genuine and true to your inner self, lead vocalist Kieran says of Runaway Girl
The track attempts to spark up a conversation about the value of taking life as it comes and trusting the thoughts and feelings inside yourself, even though that leaves you vulnerable to rejection and facing things alone.
Eager to show their versatility on this debut offering, [The Mounts] include a stripped-back acoustic version of Runaway Girl to close the release. It shows a more vulnerable side to their songwriting and gives their Humberside following something to uncover.
After meeting at college and playing covers of rock classics, Kieran Wilson (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Jude Irwin (guitar, backing vocals) were later joined by Dan Clough (Drums, backing vocals) to begin writing a set of original songs to perform live – and so [The Mounts] were formed. Since then, they’ve immersed themselves in the local gigging circuit, gaining recognition from peers and fans alike, playing the legendary Humber Street Sesh and Cottingham Springboard festivals supporting the genre-defining LIFE, as well as co-headlining local venue The Adelphi with Manchester’s The Be Positives.
[The Mounts]’ plainspoken crowd-pullers and rocker attitude have begun to establish their spot in the local live music scene, attracting more gig-goers to their sweaty crowds with every appearance. As they steer away from the traditional post-punk and alternative live sound of other Humberside bands, the trio aims to reintroduce the brash playfulness of 90’s rock n’ roll and in their own terms, “have a good laugh.”
