British rising pop star Samira is back with a shimmering new bop ‘Toxic’ – the latest in a string of bangers she has released this year

Much like her previous single ‘Envy Me’, ‘Toxic’ centres around the push and pull of an emotionally abusive relationship, inspired by Samira’s experiences. The confessional lyrics, paired with an irresistible strutting club beat, are shaping up to be Samira’s wheelhouse.

’Toxic’ is one of my favourite babies – it’s fun, flirty and sassy, but underneath the gloss it’s actually quite sad, tackling the important question of, ‘Why do we put up with bad behaviour in relationships, and what makes us go back to those situations?’

Her fourth solo single to date; ‘Toxic’ is co-written by Samira with Kal Lavelle (Ed Sheeran), Tancrede Rouff, and Theo Douke.

Samira is rapidly carving a lane of her own to become Britain’s new princess of pop. Earlier this year, the South London independent singer-songwriter launched her edgy debut solo single ‘Like This, Like That’, which earned praise from CLASH, MTV UK, and Official Charts. She followed it up with her irresistible, sassy banger ‘That’s Not What My Friends Say’, which was played on Love Island and became her third single to peak in the UK Top 5 Club Charts. Samira’s summer banger ‘Envy Me’ was featured on NME’s Best New Bangers and Wonderland’s playlist.

Last year, Samira quietly eased her way into the music industry with the feel-good summer hit ‘I Love Your Smile’, a cover of the 90s Shanice classic and a collaboration with dance collective W.D.C., which amassed over 7 million streams. The inescapable dance track spent 16 days on Spotify UK’s Daily Viral Chart and also gave the aspiring popstar her first taste of daytime BBC Radio 1 support.

Inspired by Black dance-pop queens who came before her like Rihanna, Janet Jackson, and Kelly Rowland; Samira is a triple-threat entertainer to watch for. After years of honing her craft in the studio and on stage at the West End; the singer-songwriter, dancer, and actress will be stepping into the spotlight in a big way this year.

Stay tuned for Samira’s debut EP due to be announced soon.
