Fresh out the box, Hull-based indie outfit The Sovereigns are raring to go with their debut single Do You Wanna? (Yeah I Wanna) – an upbeat indie banger that sings about feelings of self-doubt, gut instinct & observations, all
personified in a ‘relationship’ context.

Released on Hull based youth project The Warren’s own record label (Warren Records) & recorded at their revamped inhouse studios with local indie producer Adam Pattrick, the record’s strident indie groove underpins a lyric that the band describe as heralding an inner conscience in which you’re reacting to a once familiar feeling – but what to do when that feeling is no longer familiar; you find yourself fighting between ‘what one should do’ against ‘what one wants to do’.

With Hull’s rich history of music culture, we feel this song of ours captures an essence of that ‘Hull sound’; something that’s been paved by the likes of The Beautiful South, The Paddingtons & The Housemartins. – Alex

An alt, indie funk fusion creating music out of love, with respect to their city, The Sovereigns comprise of Archie Hubbard (rhythm guitar,
vocals), Alex Ingram (lead guitar, vocals), Joe Dawson (bass, vocals) & Vinnie Cooze (Drums). Citing influences as wide as The Kooks,
Radiohead, The Housemartins, Sticky Fingers & even Pink Floyd, this laidback outfit has no “frontperson”, no egos & no spotlight on just one of them. All are omni-musicians & as a result, they love to switch around & play different parts on different songs, letting each member have the opportunity to take the lead & be their most passionate.

The original band line-up was initially Alex Ingram & Archie Hubbard, having met on a school trip. What started out as jam sessions & just a hobby throughout their late teenage years went on to ignite a special & unique spark. Then in 2024, Joe Dawson was suggested as a bassist & joined after a jam at Hull’s Gorillas Studios. With a tight sound & a full band ready to go, they were booked for a gig at Polar Bear, but then the drummer left three weeks before the gig! The owner of Gorillas Studios heard of the band’s struggles, giving Archie a number for Vinnie Cooze – the rest is history!

The Sovereigns are always looking for ways to give back, playing charity gigs when they can & dream of hopefully donating significant financial aid to charities in the future too. They want to embrace musical communities, feeling strongly that music should never be a privilege, & believe in giving back to grassroots venues, pedalling the importance of grassroots music & its often-fragile infrastructure!
Having recently performed at Humber Street Sesh Festival 2025, The Sovereigns are certainly starting to get noticed & have plans for
much more in the future
