Channel R – One Station. All The Hits! Channel R
Following the critical success of previous singles Reef & Avalon which enjoyed support from BBC Scotland, London & Ulster, Radio X, Amazing Radio, and others, Scandinavian singer-songwriter Malin Andersson is back with the hauntingly beautiful third single Ships in the Night from her upcoming album Space to Feel – a song about the whirlwind experiences of falling in & out of love while questioning whether you’re in the right place at the right time.
Released on Revanche Records, Ships in the Night was produced by LA-based, New Orleans-bred producer Ben Alleman (Dr. John, Willie Nelson, Dan Was) who also co-wrote the song with Malin, & mastered it at Colibri Sound Recorders with engineer Mo Hausler (Bat For Lashes, Marina & The Diamonds, HONNE). A gentle acoustic arrangement is cloaked with ethereal pads & soft vocal harmonies over which Malin laments about whether to trust in the process she explains
Throughout my life, I’ve carried a sensation of being either “too late” or “too early” with my insights, constantly questioning if I’m in the right place at the right time. I’ve often pondered if the choices are within my control or if I should simply trust Higher Power. This song is about falling in and out of love, reflecting on the interplay between life’s clock & the celestial constellations.
The video for Ships in the Night was directed by Alex Simpson & uses beautiful imagery to capture intimate & evocative moments, along with a coastal location in a nod to the title. The message throughout is one of contemplation & acceptance with the last light of the day providing a perfect backdrop of stillness & calm against the glassy waters.
Originally from the Swedish village Tibro, Malin grew up in a multi-generational musical household & at the age of eight started writing her own songs. Citing musicians Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez & Anna Ternheim plus author Virginia Woolf & Swedish poets Edith Södergran & Karin Boye as inspiration, Malin’s gentle guitar, profound lyrics & evocative melodies soon caught the attention of SKAP (Swedish Society of Songwriters, Composers & Authors), who presented her with a prestigious SKAP Award for Emerging Artists & Songwriters. Then on moving to London, Malin collaborated with songwriters & producers to develop her sound & since living in the capital, has played over 100 shows at venues including St Pancras Old Church, Union Chapel, The Lexington & Paper Dress Vintage to name a few.
With the release of Malin’s 2nd album Space To Feel due in early 2024, there are upcoming gigs in Rotterdam (4th Nov), Berlin (5th Nov) & at Sweden’s Future Echoes Festival (21st Mar) with more to come. Her distinctive style that combines Scandinavian melodies with a hint of English folk & reflective lyrics is resonating deeply with audiences all over Europe – this talented singer-songwriter continues to soar …
