Anya Vincent is a 20-year-old Scottish vocalist and songwriter who today releases her debut single, ‘Catfight’. A raw, energetic, and fierce pop R&B track that melds sounds of the ’80s and ’90s, showcasing Vincent’s raw and expressive vocals that harken to the virtuosic talents of Destiny’s Child and Ariana Grande, ‘Catfight’ is a bold opening statement from a pop star in the making.

Born and raised in Paisley, Anya is a singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer. Her DIY approach to all aspects of her career is reaping benefits for the young self-made star in the making. Creativity and culture were present throughout her childhood, from the work of genre-defining legends George Michael, Michael Jackson, Lauryn Hill, and Stevie Wonder, to the Glasgow traditional Irish music scene she grew up performing in. At 16 years old, Anya started releasing music while still in school, including a collaboration with respected Scottish producer Supermann On Da Beat. Vincent recently started the journey of producing her own music, honing her songwriting and production skills to create music that is a union of her
classic soul & R&B influences, and the contemporary lights of Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé.

Lyrically, ‘Catfight’ captures the relatable feeling of heartbreak from the perspective of a woman used by their lover, warning future victims, and their past selves, of this harsh affair. The voice sings of the futility of putting love in an undeserving place, culminating in Anya’s powerful proclamation, “do as I do, not as I say”, knowing that this person must make their own mistakes and learn from the experience, as they themselves did.

Starting as a demo recorded and produced in Vincent’s bedroom, ‘Catfight’ was co-produced with LA-based producer Jordan Lawlor, who has created and played with French maximalists M83, and worked with Deftones, Beck, and Oberhofer. The pair collaborated via Zoom, FaceTime, and email, sharing stems, ideas, and fleshing out the bones of her initial sketches. Of the experience, Vincent shares that “Jordan listened to the demo, and immediately understood where I was going with it. It was a great experience, and I’m extremely grateful to be able to work with such a talented and collaborative producer and musician”. Inspired by fellow Paisley artist Paolo Nutini, particularly his acclaimed album Caustic Love, Vincent is proud of the town she was raised in, sharing: “There are so many talented people in Paisley, a lot of culture and local talent. It shows you that you can have dreams and go for what you’re passionate about, because there are people who live just down the road that have achieved it.”
