Listen to our exclusive interview above with emerging R&B singer/songwriter Kara Marni who spoke to Tara about making her EP ‘State Of Mine,’ playing live again, music inspirations, how she got her start, dream collaborators and more.
London based Kara Marni released her brand new single ‘2nd Nature’ and third EP ‘State of Mine.’
Fearless, sensual and feel-good, ‘2nd Nature’ is the well-defined arrival of a new era and attitude for Kara. Written by Kara herself, it’s an anthem about being intertwined with a partner, and wanting to live in their world – even in their skin. The production of the track is a clear nod to late noughties R&B with the accompanying video showcasing her stunning new look.
I wrote it about being so comfortable with someone that being around them became a habit. A habit I very much enjoyed. We all have one person in our life where, as I say in the song, ‘you don’t have to talk, some things you don’t say, you just know’.
Kara’s third EP ‘State of Mine’ is a careful, considered body of work which reflects how far she has come as an artist, and one which firmly cements her as a formidable voice in her genre for 2021. The EP title reflects a year Kara describes as having “been in plenty of different emotional states!”, wanting to truly encapsulate her emotions and feelings through the EP, she covers themes of love, loneliness, self-reflection and self-empowerment.
EP collaborators include American R&B singer Toni Romiti and Russ, while credits include her long-term collaborators THE INVISIBLE MEN, as well as JEFF + KEITH (Ella Mai and Camila Cabello) and producers SOS (Ty Dolla Sign and Trey Songz).
