Almost to the day four years after they released their first cover (Lady Gaga’s Shallow), KEiiNO is back with another “refurbished” banger. This time, the Norwegian pop-trio had a go at another Norwegian pop trio’s 37-year-old hit: A-Ha’s “The Sun Always Shines On TV”. The original version took the UK by storm in 1986, becoming the first song by a Norwegian artist to reach #1 in the UK. As fans of A-HA, the pink electronic pop trio has treated the song with respect, but they’ve held nothing back when adding some energy. KEiiNO’s 2023 version is cranked up to 138 bpm and points back to the late 90s as much as the mid-80s.

For many years, A-Ha didn’t get the recognition for the amazing songwriters they are, but the Sun Always Shines On TV is a massive song of so many layers. Hearing A-Ha for the first time made me realise that this was the path I wanted to follow, and although we’ve made our version a bit more focused on a few elements rather than the symphonic original, we hope we can recruit a few new fans for the pop-titans as well. At least I think we can make people burn a few extra calories on the dancefloor or at the gym with our energic dance pop-version.

The sun has definitely shone on KEiiNO since their TV debut Melodi Grand Prix and later in Eurovision in 2019, where they were awarded 12 points from the UK audience. 25 songs and 150 million streams later they returned to London for two shows on April 15th and 16th, the first one being at iconic LGBT club HEAVEN, the latter at London Eurovision Party, and both very successful. Starting the 1st of May the trio continues their UK tour with shows in London, Glasgow, and Manchester (+ a few cities tba) ending in a sold-out show in Liverpool on May 7th.

Listen to this song and more emerging artists just like this one on “Discover”, playing Sundays at 10 am PT/1 pm ET on Channel R – Today’s Hits & Your All-Time Favorites.
