17-year-old Coventry-based Rapper and recording artist Kanda shows maturity by reaching out to his peers after teaming up with Suicide Prevention charity CALM (Campaign  Against Living Miserably) to release his new single about mental health in young males and the importance of being there for each other.

Taken from his upcoming debut EP out this summer, IHGYN was written by Kanda and recorded and mastered by Push Records.

Over the past few years since the age of 14, this young artist has been on a mission to make music his reality and to use the songs he writes to tell real-life stories and to speak up for the younger generation. From the age of 8 Kanda has been continuously performing in school starting with cover songs and then from the age of 14, he began writing and producing his own songs and becoming very active on the music scene both locally and nationally.

People should not have to suffer in silence and know¬† there is always support around them, even through the darkest of times. The lyrics offer many interpretations of what the song is about, but I had started to write this song targeting the issues surrounding mental health. It is not easy to spot when someone is struggling with personal issues or battling their inner demons, but this song was created with the intent of metaphorically holding the hands of those who are struggling, saying that you are not alone. I’ve encountered many people in my life where it was visible to notice that their struggles were getting the better of them, so I wanted to speak out from the perspective of both a mentally hurt person and an ominous spirit, guiding them to safety and a better life. The song enables people to relate, but might also encourage those that are struggling to speak out and turn to their loved ones for support.

His first significant performance came around in February 2020, when he performed at the 02 in London as a result of reaching the final of Open Mic UK, he has since recently performed not just on one, but on three stages at the Godiva Festival in Coventry on the same day where he performed for the BBC CWR Introducing stage, then joining Panjabi MC for their ‘Latino Heat’, and finally performing on the second stage in the evening Godiva U18’s calling, organized by Coventry Music
