Emerging Nottingham-based artist JERUB has shared the new single ‘Scared to be Myself’. It’s the follow-up to February’s ‘Cold’ and the announcement of his forthcoming EP ‘Finding My Feet’ which will be released on 26th May.

Forging a sound rooted in pop, soul, and indie, JERUB’s beautifully pensive style appeals to fans of Labrinth, Rag’n’Bone Man, and Tom Walker. He has recently supported Rhodes on his UK tour – and headlined a sold-out elusive showcase in Camden – and received considerable praise from the likes of Clara Amfo and Tom Grennan after he was shortlisted as a finalist in 2021’s BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Introducing talent search, standing out from over 10,000 entries.

On the new track ‘Scared to be Myself’, JERUB draws upon the moments he lacks confidence or self-assurance, and seeks to find the courage within himself. Delivered in anthemic style, its intimate verses build to a powerful, chant-style chorus, with brooding drums and guitar emphasising its uplifting messaging. Speaking of the inspiration for ‘Scared to be Myself’, JERUB explains:

Scared to be myself is about finding the courage to share the real version of yourself with the world and with people around you. Sometimes I feel the pressure to sound and be a certain way as an artist because everyone has opinions and I’m afraid of what people may think. After a while we forget who we really are because we are doing so much for everyone else. This song is about realising that I’m human and it’s normal to feel like this, everyone goes through it. I hope that people can listen to this and realise that they’re not alone.

Gaining strong momentum as a One to Watch in 2023, JERUB is an authentic storyteller whose music evokes raw vulnerability and passion. Born in Nigeria before moving to Nottingham aged 10, JERUB grew up surrounded by gospel artists such as Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin, before discovering pop, soul, and acoustic acts including Chance The  Rapper, Ed Sheeran, and Jon Bellion in his teenage years. This amalgamation of influences formed JERUB’s fondness for unearthing genuine emotion in his music and a style that’s deeply moving.

Now signed to new independent record label Elevate Music, JERUB will be releasing a new EP ‘Finding My Feet’ on 26th May and started the year off with a bang after his single ‘Cold’ featured in popular playlists such as Apple Music’s New In Pop and Spotify’s Fresh Finds. Garnering attention from press outlets such as When The Horn Blows, Record Of The Day and Atwood Magazine to name a few, JERUB’s also received consistent radio plays on BBC Introducing, and is confirmed to appear at Dot to Dot Festival in Bristol and Nottingham this
May with more live dates soon to be announced. ‘Scared to be Myself’ is out now via Elevate Music.

JERUB Tour Dates:
March 14th – SELECTS at Roundhouse, London
May 27th – Dot to Dot Festival, Bristol
May 28th – Dot to Dot Festival, Nottingham
