Cara Hammond – Losing Balance
Written by Channel R on July 10, 2020
Losing Balance is the new single from upcoming indie-pop singer-songwriter Cara Hammond’s EP ‘twenty four hours’, released July 3rd. It’s homemade collection of songs, written, produced and mixed by the during the quarantine, with the help of her fans. The songs were written using ideas sent in by fans on social media. Cara then wrote each song in twenty four hours, for their premiere performance on her weekly Instagram livestream.
This EP project opens with ‘losing balance’, a fresh and summery song about overlooking the important things in life, and realising it too late. This leading single is a melancholic story about regret, denial & letting love slip.
The day before my second livestream, I thought it would be a cool idea to ask fans to send me their songwriting ideas on social media. Using this as inspiration I wrote a song & then performed it for the first time in the livestream, less twenty four hours later. I was so happy with the response & realised it was a great way for me to connect with my fans.
Also featured on the EP are ‘last dance’ and ’little things’ which were inspired, written, recorded and performed under the same process.
‘last dance’ is a soulful ballad with soft backing vocals, finger-plucked guitar and heartbreaking lyrics which creates a sombre mood. The final track ‘little things’ talks about the idea of ‘following new paths’. It is a feel good song with chilled out guitar, lyrics ringing with nostalgia & a sing along ending, this is definitely one to play on your first road trip into freedom.
Cara’’s previous singles ‘Ready For The Fall’ ‘Good Times’, ‘Try To Love You’, ‘How I Feel’ and ‘Such A Mess’ picked up support from no less than 11 New Music Friday playlists on Spotify around the world – an incredible achievement for a brand new, independent British artist. She was also featured in BBC Introducing’s Hotlist for 2019.
Cara describes her music as soulful indie pop, taking influence from her favourite artists, such as Lianne La Havas, Dua Lipa, Amy Winehouse, Paolo Nutini and Ben Howard. Originally from North Wales, she is now based in London and has been writing and performing songs since she was 11 years old.
